15 September: Technology is key to creating an innovative office environment which supports new ways of working. Building Zones Ltd, which specialises in emerging technologies which impact the workplace, is to create an 'Innovation Zone' at the Ahrend furniture showroom for Designers Saturday.
The 'Innovation Zone' will feature technology to improve the use of space in the office which is increasingly a top priority for companies looking to accommodate aggressive growth strategies without increasing their real estate. Key technology includes room and desk booking, 'Digital Concierge' for guests to provide specialised, separate access to internet and building services, digital signage to enhance communication and radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to track movement of people and assets in the office.
Another key area is technology to create a sustainable environment both in terms of 'energy savings' and employee satisfaction. The 'Innovation Zone' will feature technology to measure and present energy use/carbon footprint of the workplace using a carbon dashboard, scheduling of energy and intelligent power switching to remove power from unoccupied workstations.
